Traditional family hotel born of passion
It is thanks to our numerous and long-standing regular guests that the small guesthouse above Ortisei/St. Ulrich has become a unique 4-star hotel. In the fifties, it was great-grandfather, Marcello Rella who first fell in love with the enchanting Val Gardena/Grödnertal and his future wife, Maria, and then moved here from Trentino. In 1977, the foundation stone was laid for a new building on the hill above Ortisei/St. Ulrich. After inheriting this property from his father, Marcello, grandfather, Giovanni Rella, and grandmother, Margherita Moroder, opened Pension Piciuël in the summer of 1978, which they then managed with passion, common sense, and pragmatism. What began small, soon enjoyed great success. It is thanks to our numerous and long-standing regular guests that the small guesthouse above Ortisei/St. Ulrich has now become a unique hotel of 4-star niveau.
Generation change and hotel opening
In 1987, Fabrizio, the eldest son of Giovanni and Margherita, and his wife, Yvonne, took over the guesthouse management. In 1998, after his death, his brother, Giorgio and his wife, Nadia continued. After many successful years, during which the guesthouse acquired a name for itself as an excellent address for a pleasant stay, Pension Piciuël was renovated in 2006 and reopened as the 3-star Hotel Piciuël.
4-star experience and further developments
In 2020, a major refurbishment transformed Hotel Piciuël into the 4-star Hotel Niblea, with many new highlights: after a rejuvenating uplift, the public areas, the dining room, and our Lounge bar radiate a new, cosy splendour, the new rooms in our Prestige category offer the highest level of comfort for increased demands, and the new wellness area rounds off your experience at the highest level. In the same year, son Matteo took over the management of the family business, in which his parents, Giorgio and Nadia, continue to work with passion. What has remained unchanged despite all the innovations is the time-honoured South Tyrolean hospitality and the down-to-earth manner, which characterise their activities.
